Precautions for using sow bed equipment

Publish Time:2025-03-25 22:16:20 Author:Yiming Views:63

There are many precautions to be taken when using sow bed equipment, including installation, sow management, piglet care, hygiene, and safety. The following is a specific introduction:

Equipment installation and inspection

Reasonable installation: The delivery bed should be installed in a high, dry, well ventilated, and well lit place, with a flat ground and firm installation of all components. The structure of the delivery bed should be confirmed to be stable to prevent shaking or damage caused by sow activity.

Prenatal examination: During the prenatal period of sows, it is necessary to conduct a comprehensive inspection of the delivery bed equipment, including whether the fence is damaged, whether the leaking floor is flat, whether the insulation box is working properly, and whether the water dispenser is unobstructed. If there are any problems, provide timely and attentive service or replacement to provide a safe and comfortable environment for sows and piglets

Management of sows

Getting on the farrowing bed at the right time: Generally, sows are pushed into the farrowing bed 7-10 days before delivery to give them enough time to adapt to the new environment and reduce stress.

Control diet: After getting on the delivery bed, adjust the feed supply according to the sow's physical condition and pregnancy period to avoid the sow being too fat or too thin, which may affect delivery and postpartum lactation. Reduce the amount of concentrated feed and increase green feed in the days before delivery to prevent the sow from getting sick

Observing the status of the sow: During the delivery process, it is important to closely monitor the sow's condition and take timely measures if any abnormal situations such as difficult labor occur. Postpartum attention should be paid to the feeding, drinking, and lochia discharge of sows. If there are any abnormalities, timely diagnosis and treatment should be sought

Piglet care

Timely consumption of colostrum: After piglets are born, they should be given colostrum as soon as possible. Colostrum contains rich antibodies and nutrients, which can enhance their strength and resistance.

Insulation and pressure prevention: An insulation box should be installed on the delivery bed to provide a suitable temperature environment. Generally, the temperature should be maintained at 30-32 ℃ for 1-3 days after birth, 28-30 ℃ for 4-7 days, and gradually decrease thereafter. At the same time, attention should be paid to preventing sows from pressing on piglets, and guard rails can be set up around the delivery bed

Cut off the navel and disinfect it properly: After piglets are born, the navel should be cut off and disinfected in a timely manner to prevent infection. When cutting the navel, it is important to maintain an appropriate length, usually 3-5 centimeters

Hygiene and Disinfection

Daily Cleaning: Timely clean the feces, urine, and remaining feed on the delivery bed every day to keep it clean and dry.

. Regularly flush the delivery bed, especially under the leaky floor, to prevent the accumulation of feces and debris

Regular disinfection: sterilize the delivery bed at least once a week, and use disinfectants such as peracetic acid and glutaraldehyde for spray disinfection or immersion disinfection. Before and after the sow gives birth, it is necessary to increase the frequency of disinfection and confirm that the environment is sterile

Equipment maintenance and upkeep

Regular inspection: Regularly inspect all components of the delivery bed equipment. If any damage or aging is found in the fence, food trough, water dispenser, etc., replace them in a timely manner.

. Attention should be paid to rust prevention for the metal parts of the delivery bed, and rust proof paint can be applied regularly

Cleaning and lubrication: Regularly clean the dust and debris on the driving device and transmission components of the delivery bed, and lubricate them to protect the normal operation of the equipment and extend its service life
